REDISCOVERING GRACE: NAVIGATING SETBACKS IN LIFE’S JOURNEY

It’s been a while since I visited the Youversion app or even read my Bible. I believe the setbacks I’ve faced in recent times have drawn me away from the things of God. I remember discussing with a good friend the possibility of working for Life Church (YouVersion) after earning my MBA. How times change!

A week ago, I attended the funeral of a man who had been a significant part of my life during a very tough time. He was the father of a close friend of mine, who is now a basketball coach volunteering for a Christian Basketball NGO. This man had provided me with support and a place to stay when I was going through one of the darkest periods of my life. His kindness and generosity left a lasting impact on me.

When I met my friend at the funeral, I didn’t know the right words to say. I felt I had let him down by not being present for him when he needed me most after his father’s passing. The weight of regret and the realization of missed opportunities to support a dear friend has been heavy on my heart.

As the writer of the Psalms rightly puts it, we are heavenly beings inhabiting an earthly world full of setbacks and challenges. Disappointments, illness, tragedy, unrealized potential, and death are all part of our journey. However, none of these negate the fact that our Heavenly Father is good and desires the best for us. He wants the absolute best for us because we are His children and heirs of His Kingdom. Our spirit testifies with the Spirit of God that we are His children. This means we have an incorruptible inheritance that is not affected by how much we stray from the Father.

Reflecting on these truths, I am reminded of the parable of the prodigal son. No matter how far we stray, our Father is always waiting with open arms, ready to welcome us back. His grace is boundless, and His love is unwavering. It’s never too late to reconnect with Him and rediscover the peace and purpose that only He can provide.

As I move forward, I am committed to bridging the gaps I have formed, both in my spiritual life and in my relationships. I want to be more present for those I care about and more attuned to God’s presence in my life. I know that with His guidance, I can overcome the setbacks and challenges that come my way.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)

Thank you for your continued support and understanding as I navigate this journey. Let’s continue to uplift and encourage one another, trusting that God’s plan is always for our good. Have a wonderful evening.
